Daily Mail Vase 5th Round
CVCC 7-20 Perins School The courageous Year 10’s National Cup game came to an abrupt end at home on Wednesday afternoon. Despite an encouraging start and dominating possession against their Hampshire opponents, they took the lead through a flowing move down the right wing which was unconverted. CVCC’s counter-rucking was good however as they got themselves in front with a superb 60-metre run by Jordan Gibbins who, after receiving a pass from Toby Papp, cut in from his wing to score underneath the posts, Beardsell converting for a 7-5 lead.
Despite this lead, CVCC couldn’t organise themselves in the tight positions of the game and the opposition’s urgency showed as they comfortably won the game 20-7 and went through to the last 32 in the country. Jacob Broom and Toby Papp were outstanding for the home side, coming up off the line to make great tackles, with Henry Evans making vital turnovers in possession. Well done to all the squad – we need to train every Wednesday lunchtime to bring more organisation to the natural athleticism of the squad! | |
