Year 7 Visit Clyston Mill

clyston2Year 7 Humanities Groups have been on visits to Clyston Mill in Broadclyst over the past few weeks. The visits have been difficult to arrange because of the very wet weather. Mr and Mrs Kirby, who are the National Trust managers of the property, have been very accommodating. They have opened up the Mill especially for our visits. 7YKF visited the Mill on Friday 7th December. Their co-tutor Mrs Sharkey joined us on the trip. Mr Kirby gave the group a tour of the working Mill and explained the milling process. The wheat is grown at Elbury Farm in Broadclyst by the Kittow family. It is stone ground at the mill. The Mill is powered by a water wheel which has been restored by the National Trust.

It was a very interesting visit. The students behaved perfectly of course and thanked Mr Kirby for giving up his time to talk to us.
