Rain Fails to Dampen Students’ Spirits
We recently held our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Expedition training involving camping on the Friday night, pitching tents, cooking safely on stoves, as well as covering 1st aid, how to pack a rucksack, country code, using maps and compasses and planning route cards. The British weather wasn’t too kind to us with low temperatures and lots of rain which added to the experience for the students on the Friday evening. The weather cleared on the Saturday in time for our short walk around the local countryside using some of the theory we had covered and putting it into practice.
All 35 students who completed the training are now busy planning route cards and organising their kit and menus for the practice in mid-October. The practice expedition sees the students carrying all their kit and food for two days walking and one night camping, so will be a real challenge even before adding in the British weather! But they’re well prepared and we’re sure they will rise to the challenge…
