Merry Xmas, Everybody

Lawrie, Harry, Ryan, Joe, Robbie and the Jazz Band brought the term to a rousing end with their rendition of the 1970s Slade classic. This followed Mia and Kiera’s “Perfect”, the Jazz Band’s “Warm this Winter”, and the haunting “Mary, did You Know” sung by Molly Dart. The theme of the assembly was Peace and Goodwill, introduced by Mr Everett’s reading of Christmas Bells by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, contrasting the bells symbolising peace with the cannon roar representing war.

Dr Bawn reflected on the numerous achievements and opportunities which had taken place throughout 2017, none of which would be possible without the commitment of Clyst Vale’s staff and enthusiastic, willing students. In 2018 we wish to maintain the theme of peace and goodwill, by challenging behaviours which make others feel unsafe or unsupported. The vast majority of our students are fantastic young people, but we can always do more to reduce bullying, hurtful banter and the influence of social media. A key part in this will be Clyst Vale’s application for recognition as a “Rights Respecting School”: more on this in the New Year.
