Holocaust Memorials
This year Emer Cunningham and Freya Westney, both in Year 12, were chosen to visit Auschwitz to learn more about the Holocaust. This trip was funded by the Holocaust Memorial Trust. Emer and Freya went to meetings in Exeter before the trip to prepare them as much as possible.
On their return both students spoke to Year 9 students about Auschwitz and the Holocaust in their History lessons. They were both impressed with the way in which the students responded; they listened at tentatively and asked many sensible questions.
Freya and Emer then judged some of the students’ work. All were asked to work on a homework assignment to produce a fitting memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. In the photo we can see Freya and Emer handing out certificates to Rachel Davey, Charlie Blackburn, Rio Acland, Tom Sluggett and Emily Brooke.
Freya and Emer both deserve praise for speaking so eloquently about this visit. Our Year 9 students also deserve praise for their excellent homework and impressive maturity.
